The Bridge of Lies in Sibiu is a small cast-iron bridge built in 1860, during a period when the Upper Town was being modernized. Its name most likely comes from the German *Liegenbrücke*, meaning a "lying" or "low" bridge, which over time was confused with *Lügenbrücke* ("bridge of lies"). Because of this linguistic shift, local stories later appeared claiming the bridge could react to dishonesty. Historically, however, the bridge served a practical role, linking the Huet Square area with the lower market streets and becoming one of the earliest metal bridges in Transylvania.
